"We are excited to help heal the children affected by devastating earthquake and give them renewed hope to live the present and the future with a new mobility. " This was underlined by Carl Anderson , Supreme Knight of Columbus, during the official opening ceremony of a workshop prostheses for children in Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital.
The program "Healing the Children of Haiti" - with the help of Project Medishare, Ă–ssur and Challenged Athletes Foundation - aims to provide prostheses and physical rehabilitation therapy for children who have more than two years of age.
The new lab is already active for some months - says the Osservatore Romano - will prepare more than six hundred types of prostheses. About a hundred children have already benefited from the program, while another thousand have been provided with wheelchairs to get around.
The center will also work as a school for training future technicians in the field. It is understood, so, start, and then consolidate with the opening of other centers related to the production of prosthetic training of nurses specializing in rehabilitation to walk.
There are already two Haitians entered the structure after course training.
